Hongkong, April 28th, 1903.

Report on Thomas Leadbeater an inmate of the Lunatic Asylum.

I examined Mr. Leadbeater on the 21st instant, he gave me the following history.

He came out to Hongkong on the S.S. "Cranley", he says that while on board this ship he was continually subject to annoyance which he believes were caused by a conspiracy against him by the members of the ship's company. The first thing he noticed were continual tappings and sounds of chuckling going on in his cabin, he thinks these were caused by some electrical means. Then he began to hear voices talking about him and making objectionable and obscene remarks about him, then they asked him questions about his past life which he says he felt compelled to answer, and in this way other persons became acquainted with the whole of his past history, and this knowledge is, he says, now being used to his detriment.

The voices he heard seemed sometimes to come from the next cabin, sometimes from above his cabin and sometimes from below. He says that he does not know why this was done except that he would not associate with the other officers of the ship, and he thinks that therefore they may have had a spite against him. He was never able to see or identify any of the persons whom he thought caused these annoyances.

On his arrival here he went to the Hongkong Hotel, while there the annoyance continued, persons kept jumping on the floor above him to annoy him, then he heard voices which he feels sure were those of some of the ship's crew, threatening to carry him off by force from the hotel, take him on board the ship again, and land him at Taku among the coolies, and leave him there. He became so frightened that these threats would be carried into effect that he got out his revolver to defend himself in case he was attacked. While examining the revolver to see that it was...
